it's beginning to smell a lot like christmas

i have wonderfully exciting news....we got our christmas tree! perhaps i'm a little too giddy about it, but you must understand that i grew up in a family where we were not even allowed to mention the word christmas tree until the middle of december for fear that, as soon as we did get it, it's needles would begin to hurridly fall off. on sunday after church, josh and i stopped at a little tree farm and picked out an absolutely perfect 7 1/2 foot douglas fir. i am completely head over heels in love with it. we meant to decorate it that day, but i mistakenly got 2 different kinds of christmas lights. (thanks to zandra for helping me fix that problem :)) we ended up going to josh's folks house for an amazing filet mignon dinner, then to mike & sara's to watch the chargers beat the raiders. then we came home and josh helped me put the lights on and yesterday we decorated it! of course, "how the grinch stole christmas" had to be playing while we did so. josh even wound some lights around the railing outside our house. it's finally feeling like christmas, even though watching a little girl run around the christmas tree farm wearing shorts was a little disconcerting.

on monday at work, it was simply crazy with lineups at the registers pretty much all day. amidst all of the craziness, i managed to find out the a customer i was ringing up had just moved here from abbotsford a couple of weeks ago! the lady in the next lineup got excited and told us that her daughter just moved to mission. it was a neat little chat while it lasted. i can remember last christmas being so hard. really, it was all of last year that was quite hard, just being away from my family and friends, and everything being different down here. last night josh and i were talking and i told him how thankful i am to God that this year is just so much easier. i am so happy with where i am and where we are in our lives. we have so much to look forward to together and so much that is happening right now. i am just in a very happy place right now.

and now i must rush off to work before i am late

Hi Heidi! Your tree turned out beautiful! And I'm so glad that this year is so much easier than last year...I can't even imagine packing up and leaving my life behind. You are a very strong girl!

beautiful tree. It is hard to be away from home. I have found that after making the hard move of being so far from family that it has made me more open to transplanting wherever God takes me and learning to set roots wherever. We are so lucky to live during a time when we can talk to our friends and family in so many different ways. Can you imagine if it still too 3 months to get a letter somewhere?
Enjoy the holiday season. Hopefully it is busy enough to make the day go fast but not so busy that you fall asleep when you get home!
oh! And if you email me (princessaherne@yahoo.com) with your address I'd love to litter your postbox with a christmas card.
