fire, fire everywhere

just wanted to let you know that our family is safe and our home is still intact at this point. our town was given a mandatory evacutation order, but we decided to stay for a few reasons. so far the fires haven't closed off our one remaining "escape route" we have a close friend who's husband is a firefighter who will let us know if we need to leave, as well as next door neighbors who have also stayed and are monitoring the situation. the air quality is quite bad, so we're stuck indoors all day, but i thank God that the three of us are together and safe. thanks for your prayers. here's some information from another source. i think this was the situation yesterday:

WITCH CREEK FIRE:
The latest update from CALFIRE reports the fire is now 145,000 acres and zero percent contained. The cause is under investigation.
• 600 structures have been destroyed (500 residences, 50 outbuildings, 100 commercial properties)• 300 structures have been damaged (250 residences, 75 commercial properties and 50 outbuildings)• Seven injuries to firefighters; one civilian injury
The fire is threatening the communities of San Diego, Poway, Ramona, Escondido, Lakeside, Valley Center, San Marcos, Rancho Santa Fe. Currently, about 625 firefighters are battling the blaze using 89 engines, nine fire crews, ten dozers and two water tenders.
HARRIS FIRE:
The Harris Fire has now burned 22,000 acres and is five percent contained. Some civilians have chosen not to evacuate and have created rescue problems as the fire impacts their community.
• Five firefighters injured; one civilian fatality, six civilians injured• The cost to date to fight this fire is $1,300,000
The fire is threatening the communities of Potrero, Barrett Junction, Barrett Lake area, Engineer Springs, Dulzura, Deerhorn Valley, Lawson Valley, Jamul, Lyons Valley area and Otay Mountain, and extreme fire conditions are making conditions difficult.

thanks for your prayers! they have been felt. God is surrounding us with His peace and comfort.

Any word about Chris, Brad and Stew's house? I don't want to call their cell phone, as we've been told not to.

Heidi. We have to change the date of the garage sale. It will either be the 3rd or the 10th of Nov. Probably the 3rd. We do have a futon...some recliner chairs, etc.

if you choose to evacuate...would you like to come here?
I'll send my pilot to come and get you for no cost...if there is an airport he can land at. plenty of fall fresh air to be had here.

Oregon does sound pretty safe :O)

I wouldnt want to leave my house either. I only worry that if you wait until last minute- wouldn't you be in hurry to get out with everyone else who also waited until last minute? (traffic etc) Or like you mentioned with people who are creating rescue problems by not evacuating in time. It is amazing how fast a fire spreads.

Prayers for you and the family. As well as all others facing the same thing. It has only recently started to be all over our tv.

Heidi, if you guys do end up having to evacuate last minute, you are welcome here in Colorado, too. We can help you guys make travel arrangements if need be. Please holler if we can help.

Heidi, Thank you so much to Josh for checking in on our house for us. We were able to get in contact with a neighbor who stayed and he has been feeding the donkeys for us and he said the same thing about our front door. It usually doesn't "stick" unless it is locked, so I am sure that it just keeps blowing open. I'm not looking forward to the mess that has blown in as a result! We sure can't wait to come home...we all have cabin fever big time!!!

Heidi,
thanks for the note on my page. How is the fire situation there? Are you still at home or have you had to leave? I hope and pray that everything is ok.
