my mum

my mom flies in tomorrow afternoon and she is staying with us for the whole week! i'm so excited. the main reason she's coming is for tristan's birthday on tuesday, but i'm sure we'll have lots of time for "talking till our ears fall off" as she said today. she called just to make sure she could use my hairdryer instead of packing her's and when i said "hi mom!" i realized, to my delight that i still say "mom" with the short "o", (like mum) which is a canadianism that i haven't lost yet. my next sentence, though was, "are you going to bring us some jam?" to which my mom replied with gales of laughter. she said, "you're sound like such an american saying jam like jayam". oh well.

normally after christmas i have a sort of bluesy period when i realize that its really all over with and life must return back to normal. but with my mom visiting, it sort of feels like the honeymoon after the wedding; the big event is over, but there's still something great to look forward to. if anyone reading this thinks its odd that i'm comparing a visit with my mom to a honeymoon, i would like to say you have no idea what its like to live so far away from someone that is not only my mom but also one of my dearest friends.

mmmmm....smells like josh is baking brownies downstairs. looks like the weightwatchers bandwagon will have to wait for just a few more days....

Mum or Mom time is wonderful time. I am so looking forward to having my daughter with us for three months starting next week. Yeah!

I finally figured out how to skip the post holiday blues...the Christmas season (the twelve days after Christmas...as designated by most churches.) Funny how everyone does "Advent" weeks in America yet hardly anyone does "Christmas" days. It's like decorating the nursery for a new baby, then chucking it all as soon as the baby is born! Goofy, eh?

I completely understand. I'm crying because I'm going to miss my mama & daddy so much!!! Though I love living out there, the honeymoon period of being so far away is clearly over, and I'm jus sad. Bummed we didn't get to see you again while we were here. Have a WONDERFUL time with your Mum, and tell her 'hi' for us. Hugs, Dena

Happy Birthday, Tristan!

I realize that Utah is not as far away as Canada, but I understand about living away from your mom and dear friend. My mom has to go home on Thursday and I am super sad. I do get to visit at the end of the month so I guess it won't be so bad.

Yay for moms and brownies!!!!!!

Let me know when mum goes homey so I can call. I go back to school next week so I'd love to chat before I begin another semester of hell.

hee hee.

I love low fat brownie mix. Just ate most of a pan of it in the last twenty four hours - whoops. WW is calling my name for sure.

Mom visits are great if you've got the right mom - and you do!

Enjoy!!

Heidi, I hope you don't mind me checking in on you once in a while.
I had a little chuckle about the accents and the jam. It's come to the point where I just cook a batch of jam at Kristal's house if she doesn't have any left.
I enjoyed this post and the birthday one. Funny, I still remember Ben's smile when I walked into his room on his first birthday. That's the only birthday smile I remember ... maybe because I took pictures.
