false hope?

saw the dr. again this morning. measuring my uturus, he guessed that the baby is around 6lbs. that sounds SO tiny to me! then he checked my cervix, and just as disappointment began filling me while i heard him say "still 2cm dilated and 70% effaced" he began doing something, i'm still not quite sure what, except that it sort of felt like what i've heard stripping membranes feels like. and then he said "okay, now after this you will most likely feel some cramping and experience light bleeding. the cramping may turn into painful contractions and you may very well go into labor tonight." he said this while giving me a conspiratorial smile. all i could say was "wow, THANK you!" he said he'll be working at the hospital on saturday, so he may just deliver my baby, and then said, "but there's a good chance you'll have him tomorrow." and then when i asked him how long he'd let me go past my due date before inducing labor, he told me, "well, we'd usually only let you go until 41 weeks, but don't worry, you won't go overdue."

this doctor is so freaking optimistic that it almost bothers me! i mean, what if i DON'T go into labor tonight? what if i DO go overdue? i'd be pretty upset because, i tell you, how can you not get your hopes up when an experienced obstetrician is feeding you all sorts of hope?

i called josh after the appointment and he said "oh GREAT! now i won't be able to sleep a wink tonight!"

so far i've definitely felt a lot of cramping. my contractions continue to feel very strong and quite long as well (some over 2 minutes), though not consistant nor terribly painful. it is my plan to stay off of my behind as much as possible for the rest of the day, as well as to do the most exercise i can do at this point, which is to go up and down the stairs on my bum.

and yes, of course i will continue to keep you posted :)

very exciting... but dr's can be overly optimistic- but I hope that's not the case for you! It definetly sounds like you got your membranes stripped. It didn't work for me, but I never had any cramping or contractions after- so here's hoping that it works for you!

like I said on fb My dr did that for me with Michael and it was a huge blessing because I had him out 24hours later. I did however have to beg her to make the pregnant part end and swear to her that I knew having 2 kids would be hard and I was ready, just as long as I wasn't pregnant anymore! I really hope he comes out safely and soon for your sanity...(which is odd since 2 small boys never felt sane to me ;)

You definitely had your membranes stripped, I had that done with Hunter. Its uncomfortable for quite a while (for me it was painful for about 24 hours), but he ended up coming 2 days later. So it did work for me. This is your 2nd so you might have a good chance of him coming tonight, you never know. Each time is so different. I pray its soon for you, so you can meet your little one. Theres nothing like the relief when you've just had your baby. Can't wait to hear, our babies will be almost a month apart.

Same experience for me. When my membranes were stripped I was crampy afterward. I, too (if you remember) was having contractions for WEEKS before delivering Koby. But both times I had my babies within two days after having my membranes stripped. Woohoo!

I had my membranes swept twice with Declan, one week apart from eachother. It was a few days after the second one that I actually went into labour. I'm sure that when you do experience the "real" thing it will be fast and furious like mine was:) Don't worry thats a good thing! The shorter the better! Its good that your body is doing all this work and you are dilating without actually being in labour. I had the same thing for weeks, darn early labour:( Thinking of you. Steph

You've still got a few hours to pop him out tonight. That way the boys could be exactly 3 months apart. Yes, I remember labor and I remember that there was no popping involved. Just a whole lot of strenuous pushing. It's just that I've heard that after the first they can tell to fall out and I'm sending good "fall out" thoughts in your general direction.

I hope he's right and that you have him tomorrow or the next day. If he's giving you false hope, it sounds like he wouldn't let you go past your due date, maybe. In which case, you'd only have 11 days to rue the day your OB was born. :-)

can tend to fall out, not tell.

I had mine stripped and Scarlett was out within 24 hours. I started cramping and contracting then my water broke like a gush and off to the hospital we went. I hope everything goes quickly for you and cant wait to see him. You guys are in our prayers.

I tend to not be optimistic when it comes to delivering early...I was guaranteed that Kammie wouldn't make it to her due date, but along she came, seven days late! But then again, I never had my membranes stripped. From the other comments, it sounds like it works pretty well!!! I definitely hope for your sake he comes sooner rather than later! And am praying for a safe, EASY delivery and healthy baby no matter when he decides to make his grand entrance! We sure can't wait to meet the little guy!
