day 16

the poop saga has come to and end....i hope permanently! the end of the story was that i had to take her down to urgent care and spent a non-romantic valentines evening with a little girl in so much pain that it made me cry. it had been 10 days since her last poop and the liquid suppository i gave her did nothing. so, following the instructions on the package, i called her doctor who sounded very alarmed and was told that she needed to be seen. the urgent care doctor inserted a regular glycerin suppository and told me that if it didn't work within an hour, ava would need to go to children's hospital to get an x-ray  to determine if there was an obstruction. i prayed hard for poop, and hard poop i got! within 2 minutes, ava looked  and sounded as if she was in labor, pushing so hard. she was screaming in pain and her face turned purple with the strain and then she stopped breathing in between pushes, so her lips turned blue. the doctor had already left the room and ava was laying on the exam table, and i didn't know what to do! finally she took a deep breath, pushed some more and out it came. and came and came and came. when the doctor came back to take a look, she told me that the amount that came out would equal an adult pooping a trash can full! she was that backed up. ava fell fast asleep almost instantly, exhausted from pushing and finally pain free. she slept through the long drive home and kept sleeping the entire night through.

the next day she was giggling, smiling, and eating way more than she has in awhile. i'm being extremely careful in what i feed her and making sure she has enough liquids. so far she's back to being regular and i hope that i never take another poopy diaper for granted!

(i'm sure that's more than you ever wanted to know about ava's poop, right?)

I'm so glad she pooped. It's so hard seeing a baby stopped up like that.

I am so glad you posted this. I was worried sick after your previous post. A couple of poopless days...like three...is fine, after that serious complications can happen. Very, very serious. The baby's pain level...yikes. So glad all is well now.

I remember having a friend go through that with her little one. :( I hope that this is a one time thing and that you don't have to go through it again.
Oh my, is that little girl cute! I love the first picture. So, so sweet.
