well, this weekend was long and wonderful and packed full of fun memories first off, The Hike.
on friday morning, josh and i packed a backpack full of what we thought were hiking essentials and put on what we thought was proper hiking attire. like i said earlier, neither of us are really the hiking type, so this was quite the adventure. we drove a little ways out of town, and began to follow the trail to the punchbowl. southern california has been getting a ton of rain this year, so the wildflowers were absolutely breathtaking. i so wish we had a digital camera so i could share the pictures we took. so we're hiking, and find that there is an abnormal amount of butterflies flying all around us. i thought it was kind of pretty at first, but then it began to feel a little like a plague, and i really tried hard not to get creeped out. i like butterflies in general, but swarms of them, not so much. luckily, they stopped swarming once we went down a ways, so i can still say that i like butterflies. we crossed a few streams, once taking off our shoes and socks to do so. on the other streams, josh would find rocks that his long legs could reach. i would stand there, on a rock, surrounded by water and say, "i can't do this!" and he'd always say, "yes you can!" and he'd reach out his hand to me, and i'd lunge, and he'd pull me onto the rock. by the 5th time we did this, i was beginning to feel rather proud of myself, though i think that josh should get all the credit for keeping my feet dry.
after about an hour and a half, we began to hear the sound of the waterfall that flows into this hole, which is deep enough to swim in. by this time, we had come across 3 other hikers, a mom with her son and daughter, who were also heading towards the waterfall. as we got closer, we could see a lot of people all scattered across the cliffs next to the waterfall. they were all wearing orange pants. soon it became apparent that they were all men, and the closer we got, the more i started to get a bad feeling. there were about 30 men, and they were all STARING at us, really intently. kind of like they hadn't seen women in a very long time. a few of them motioned for us to come closer and some of them whistled. i stayed huddled on a rock with the lady and her kids, while josh walked towards a few of the men who were walking towards us. by now, we could see that the black letters on the legs of their orange pants spelled PRISONER. we were scared. josh was not. he casually made small talk with the guys, who told him that they worked for the fire department (as if we can't read!) after awhile, whoever was in charge realized that these guys were intimidating us, so they all climbed up the cliff to the top of the waterfall, where they continued to stare at us as we ate our lunch. kind of took a little bit of romance out of the whole thing! josh took a couple of pictures of the waterfall, but it was impossible to get a picture without including guys in orange pants. oh well, at least we'll have an interesting story every time we show those pictures! the hike back up was gruesome and hard and reminded me of why we are not the hiking types. but it was fun, and once i forget the pain of it all, i'm sure i'll want to go back again.
yesterday we had a blast with josh's family, watching kaylee find easter eggs in the grass, (her mouth turning into a perfect, little round O every time she found one) and finding our own easter baskets. i never had easter baskets growing up, so this was a first for me. we had a delicious feast and then sat around and felt fat and ate chocolate from our baskets. it was lovely. when we got home, a friend of mine called and....get this...offered us free tickets TO SEE U2 TOMORROW NIGHT!!!!! i think i kind of freaked out on the phone, but its all a little fuzzy in my memory. i guess she got tickets for wednesday night for better seats, so we get to see U2 on the very FIRST concert of their world tour!! i am still in shock. josh and i love U2 (who doesn't?) in fact, we both, unknowingly, bought each other their newest cd for christmas! so, that is my big, exciting news.
other exciting and rather funny news that i feel i can now share is about my friend leah. (the married one with 2 kids, etc.) she and her husband decided that it was time for him to get a vascectomy. (i'm pretty sure i spelled that wrong) on the WAY HOME from getting snipped, leah starts to feel nauseated and throws up. turns out, number 3 is on the way! don't worry, they both have great sense of humour and are extremely happy. so am i :)
tomorrow is my first day of work. what will i wear? i don't care, i'm going to see U2!
