a million and one things

i have been a bad blogger, but it's really not my fault. since my parents left, i have not had one single day off until today, and so have not had an iota of time to blog, or read emails, or read other blogs, SO, today is my catch up day. i hope to cram as much information into this blog as possible, since i doubt i'll blog for another long while. we are leaving for kauai this friday (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and i am planning on being very serious about vacationing while there. this means no blogging of any sort. i do promise, however, plenty of lovely pictures posted when we return, just to make you all jealous.

josh and i planned on going to kauai for our honeymoon last year, but with the whole mess of immigration, decided it'd be easier to postpone it a year. i am so glad we did, because the time share that we got has 2 bedrooms/bathrooms, and, being old married people now, we don't mind company, so we invited josh's sister jessica and her husband rob to join us! we are so extremely excited. rob and jessica are leaving their kids behind, so it will definately be a much deserved break for them. our plans while there include: snorkeling, eating, hiking, horseback riding, eating, laying on the beach, going to the spa, going shopping, eating, doing nothing, snorkeling, eating and sleeping. perfectly lovely.

please pray for jessica. she is going in for a biopsy in 2 days to determine whether a lump in her breast is dangerous or not. there is a history of breast cancer on both sides of her family, so we are all very concerned. she will not find out the results until we are back from kauai, so please pray also that she will be able to enjoy her time away, and that God will fill her with the peace that only He can give. thank you.

update on baby kaiyah: she is doing wonderfully well! your prayers have worked wonders! kaiyah is truly a miracle baby. she has been steadily gaining weight, and is up to 5 lbs. the results of a brain scan show very little, if any damage. the doctor said that if he hadn't have known her history, he never would have guessed what she had gone through just by seeing the results. Praise God! i will try and get a newer picture to post soon.

new to the blogger world: my other dear friend leah. (leah d on my links list) she is my friend leah with 2 kids and a dog and one on the way (a kid on the way, not a dog) leah and i have stayed close through all kinds of events in our life. for a bit of our history, check out my march 3rd blog in the archives section. you really must check out leah's blog and take a look at her 2 adorable kids. and, of course, comment. :)

my little sister, cherie is now a temporary resident of scotland. she flew there sunday evening for a 2 year stay as an intern at the YWAM base in paisley. we are thankful that all of her papers for her visa went through and that she arrived safely. take a look at her blog for pictures of stanley house, where she is staying. we are going to scotland next april, along with josh's parents, and are excited about meeting up with cherie while we are there.

pictures: i haven't been posting pictures because i am a complete idiot and cannot figure out a way to get pictures from my camera onto my blog without emailing them to myself first and going through all kinds of unneccesary steps. does someone else have the kodak easy share program? help me! i have so many great pictures from john's birthday and my parent's visit.

josh and i tried escargot for the first time a few weeks ago. and baby octopus. i was going to write a long, elaborate blog about the whole experience when it first happened, but time has passed and i no longer remember what i all wanted to say. but we are proud of being so brave, so i just had to share that little bit.

well, i have a million and one things to do today to get ready for our trip. i'll write when we get back!

goodbyes

when josh and i were rapidly falling in love in england 2 1/2 years ago, i clearly remember the day he asked me the question, "would you ever move away from home?" i was surprised at how readily my answer came. i told him, "yes." up until that point, i never in a million years would have expected to move away from my family and friends and all that i held dear, just for a guy. obviously i hadn't met the right guy until then.

even though i knew that i'd be moving away, i had absolutely no idea what it would actually feel like. i have had many bouts of homesickness, lonliness and feelings of not really belonging in this part of the world. after a year of residing in this country, things are much more familiar. i now know how to pronounce things "correctly", rarely get lost, and am nearly fluent in farenheit. still, it can be hard sometimes. frequent phone conversations and emails could never make up for chatting over coffee or day-long shopping trips.

my parent's visit was wonderful. they arrived thursday afternoon (armed with canadian chocolate and enough puzzles to last us a year) and stayed until monday morning. my mom and i had a full day to ourselves on friday. we eventually made it to la jolla (after an accidental detour to downtown san diego) where we strolled along the beach and talked and talked. we also discovered a lovely french bistro where we shared a panini sandwich and a slice of the most decadent, delicious chocolate mousse cake i have ever tasted.

on saturday, my parents took josh and i out to black angus for steak, and on sunday, josh's whole family came over for a bbq and swimming and cupcakes for three birthdays (my mom's, josh's mom's and john's--he turned one) after everyone had left, my mom and i managed to escape for one last coffee together. we are blessed to have the most wonderful mother/daughter relationship and i count her as one of my closest friends.

at 6am on monday, i stood next to josh on our back patio and watched my mom and dad get into their little red car and drive away. you know those times where you try so hard to be stoic, but you find you have little control over it, and your face just sort of crumples? this was one of those times. as their tail lights blurred in a pool of tears, i had an overwhelming urge to run to their car, jump in, and tell them, "i'm going with you! take me home!" and yet the urge even more overwhelming was to lean into my husband's comforting arms and remain right where i belong--by his side. he is my family. he is my home.

a reddish sort of tan

in exactly one more week, my parents will be arriving! my manager was wonderful and gave me an extra day off while they're here. this morning, i called my mom up to ask her a quick question and we ended up getting all giddy and gabbing on about what we're all planning on doing together on my day off. i am VERY excited!

i'm adding a few more links to other blogs...zandra, a fellow ramonian has hopped on the blog boat & you can see pictures of her amazingly adorable little girl at the brown's blog. tamara is a cousin of mine who lives in new mexico with her husband, mark. mark has written a couple posts on their new blog & reading his essays are such a treat...he is very gifted. and then leah. my very dear friend who is currently living in italy with her new husband, getting ready to move to thailand next month. her life is truly one adventure after another and i love hearing about her travels and living vicariously through her. she has only posted once and i'm wondering if it may be due to the lack of comments she has received, SO...check out her blog and tell her how fabulous her writing is and urge her to blog more!!

while driving down main street in josh's truck the other evening, a car horn began to bellow close by. josh immediately began pounding away at his steering wheel, as i sat there, wondering what in the world had taken possesion over my husband. the horn stopped bellowing, josh stopped pounding and he said to me rather embarassed, "yeah, my horn has been on the fritz lately." apparently it was HIS horn that had bellowed, and i had no idea, but it's been doing this lately, where it will just start up for no reason! well, this struck me as extremely funny and i couldn't help but laugh my head off for quite a ways down the road. now, whenever i need a pick me up, i only have to think of josh's horn with a mind of its own and i get the giggles.

on tuesday i went to the beach with sara and her three kids. it was actually the very same beach that josh and i were married on, and i hadn't been there since, so every now and then i'd stare down the long stretch of sand and feel rather nostalgic. we had a fun time watching the kids play and playing in the waves with them. i am quite proud of the fact that i almost never burn, and so i rarely use sunscreen. well, my pride took quite a fall later on that day when i realized that 3 hours on the beach resulted in a rather reddish back, arms, chest and nose. cannot wait for the peeling to start.

i need to get ready to leave for work soon, and i always seem to be rushed and today i am determined NOT to be. so off i go. later.

because now i know how to

because now i know how to post pictures from our new camera, AND because its nearly midnight and i cannot sleep, i decided to post a plethera of pictures (ooh, lovely alliteration) for your enjoyment. please try and ignore the captions under the photos that don't make any sense. i don't type too well in the dark. what i MEANT to say under the first photo of our new american flag is that these pictures were taken at our fourth of july bbq. and then i added a couple of oliver just cause he's so darn cute.

in less than three weeks my parents will be here!! and in five weeks we'll be in hawaii!! and in less than five months it will be christmas ( marilyn, that one was for you). today was a happy day off...i got to sun myself while talking on the phone to my friend christy, and then decided it was too hot, so came inside and continued talking to christy while oliver licked my tummy (i guess he had a salt craving). then i got to go shopping with the excuse of buying a birthday gift for my mom who looks way too young to be turning 51 in a week. i picked up groceries on the way home plus a new dustpan, which excited me so much that i simply had to try it out when i got home. i got the entire floor swept and mopped just as josh walked in the door from work. after a lovely dinner of herb and garlic posta (not paasta), garlic bread and salad with a glass of wine, i gave josh the foot massage i had promised him last night. we watched an episode of jordan's crossing, taped for us by josh's parents, took a look outside at the gorgeous sunset and promptly went to bed. half an hour later i decided i couldn't sleep and came in here to post pictures. now you are up to date on my life. now i can go back to bed.

night.
